Los Angeles # Heatwave: Unseasonably Hot Weather Brings Heat Illness Risks

Los Angeles is bracing for an unseasonable heatwave, with forecasters predicting temperatures around 93 degrees, a stark contrast to the typical mid-March weather. The National Weather Service has warned of a higher risk of heat illness, urging residents to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activities during the day.

The hot weather is expected to persist throughout the week, with Thursday being the hottest day, with temperatures possibly hitting 95 degrees in the San Fernando Valley. Workers at outdoor construction sites are taking precautions, with plenty of drinking water and electrolyte packets available, as well as shade structures for breaks.

Los Angeles city and county officials have planned to open cooling centers for residents without air conditioning. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, stay in the shade, and take breaks in cool spaces. The heatwave is expected to start subsiding by Friday, with a sea breeze bringing some relief to the coast.

The rest of the state will also see hotter-than-normal weather starting next week, with temperatures topping 90 degrees in San Francisco and the Sacramento area. As the city prepares for the Oscars on Sunday, the heatwave is expected to be over by then, but residents are still advised to take precautions.
